Cybernauts (David Bowie/Mick Ronson Related)

Cybernauts - Live (2 x CD) - 2001 - Arachnophobia

Cybernauts were a David Bowie cover band, formed as a tribute to Mick Ronson, featuring Def Leppard members Joe Elliott and Phil Collen, former Spiders From Mars members Trevor Bolder and Mick "Woody" Woodmansey, and the late keyboardist/vocalist, Dick Decent. Cybernauts released a limited edition live album in Japan only, via Universal Music/Victor Entertainment Japan. In 2001, Cybernauts released a two-CD set consisting of the live album plus the EP The Further Adventures of the Cybernauts which contained studio recordings, via Arachnophobia Records, England. CD 1 recorded live at the Olympia Theater in Dublin, Ireland on August 7, 1997 was one of a few concerts held in memorial of the late great guitarist Mick Ronson. CD 2 contains eight studio tracks. A fitting tribute to the late, great Mick Ronson, the songs of David Bowie, and the sadly missed Dick Decent and Trevor Bolder. ABOUT CYBERNAUTS

On the day ex-Spiders From Mars guitarist Mick Ronson died (29th April 1993), Def Leppard performed a cover of Ziggy Stardust in Stockholm, Sweden, as a tribute to Mick. This eventually led to the formation of the Cybernauts. On 29th April 1994, Mick Ronson's sister Maggie invited lead vocalist Joe Elliott and guitarist Phil Collen of Def Leppard to play in a Mick Ronson memorial tribute at the Hammersmith Odeon in London. In 1997 a few tour dates were organized in the UK and Ireland and on the 7th August 1997 the band recorded a show live at The Olympia Theatre, Dublin, Ireland. Eighteen songs from this Irish gig were released on "Cybernauts Live". On August 8th 1997, the band recorded an extra four studio tracks in Bow Lane Studios, Dublin, Ireland, and on January 7th 2001, another 4 tracks were laid down at Shibaura Sound Studios, Tokyo, Japan. These eight studio tracks are on the second CD, "The Further Adventures Of The Cybernauts". The two CDs, contain 26 tracks (including a hidden bonus track, "Moonage Daydream (Acoustic"). 23 of the tracks are Bowie originals plus one by Jimi Hendrix, one by Lou Reed (Velvet Underground) and one by Craig Fuller (Pure Prairie League).
