In a 2005 interview with Midwest Quick Throttle, a magazine for motorcycle enthusiasts, reporter David Ellis-Miller said: “I know for Dave (Wagner), music, motorcycles, and Minnesota are all very much a part of his persona. He has over forty years in the recording business, but he still plays it like it is the Met Center (the leading Twin Cities live music venue of the 1960’s, 1970’s, and 1980’s).” Some people have called Crow's music "Biker Rock", "garage rock", and even hard "Pop Rock". The band have also been compared with Steppenwolf. Whatever the terms, Crow are a good hard rockin' band, with good blues elements. All Crow's musicians are Grade A, and Dave Wagner (Waggoner) is a great and very underrated vocalist. Prince wasn't the only great musician to emerge from Minnesota. Crow have been flying the flag for many years now. Check out Crow's "Crow Music", "Crow By Crow", and "Mosaic" albums. There is also an 11 track "Best of Crow" album from 1972 available on the Amaret label, and all the tracks are on this 1992 release

Minneapolis blues-rock quintet Crow was formed in 1967 by frontman Dave Wagner, guitarist Dick Weigand, his bassist brother Larry, and keyboardist Kink Middlemist. Originally dubbed South 40, they added former Castaways drummer Denny Craswell to the lineup prior to recording their 1969 debut LP, Crow Music, for the Amaret label; the single "Evil Woman Don't You Play Your Games with Me" cracked the U.S. Top 20, even though its distinctive horn arrangement was overdubbed against the band's wishes. Crow by Crow followed in 1970, although the single "Cottage Cheese" failed to attract much attention. Crow is a Minneapolis hard rock-based blues-rock band that was active from 1967 to 1972. They are best known for the song "Evil Woman (Don’t Play Your Games With Me)" which was covered by Black Sabbath. Crow was formed in 1967 by singer David Wagner, guitarist Dick Wiegand, bassist Larry Wiegand, keyboardist Kink Middlemist, and drummer Harry Nehls under the name South 40, which was used until the group went national. Nehls was replaced by Denny Craswell once the group went national. Columbia Records brought them in to record a demo in 1969; they passed, and Crow was signed to Amaret. In 1969, Crow’s debut album Crow Music was recorded. The single "Evil Woman (Don’t Play Your Games With Me)" made the Billboard Hot 100 Top 20 that fall. “Crow by Crow” and “Mosaic” were the follow-up releases in 1970 and 1971 respectively. Singles released off Crow’s later albums were not as successful; the band wanted to move to Elektra Records, but Amaret wouldn’t let them out of their contract while retaining their name. Wagner left the group in 1971; the band replaced him with Mick Stanhope and attempted to move forward, but collapsed for good in 1972. David Wagner recorded a solo album for Amaret in late 1972 titled: d/b/a Crow. They disbanded in 1972 but reformed again in 1980. This version of Crow included original lead vocalist David Wagner, John Richardson and Jeff Christensen on lead guitar/vocals, Denny Johnson on bass and Bobby Belleville on drums. From September 1980 to July 1981 they recorded many sessions, which resulted in a new studio album titled Crow on the Run in 1982. This version of Crow disbanded in early 1982. In 1988 Crow reformed and they continue to play concerts all over the United States and have released numerous C.D.'s. All the members have won Minnesota Music Awards for their own individual instruments. In 2005 they were inducted into the Minnesota Rock/Country Hall of Fame and, in 2009, the Iowa Rock & Roll Music Hall of Fame.
